The Easiest Guide For Cleaning Toilets

ThinkstockPhotos-80618846

Cleaning your toilet will not only keep your home looking neat but will also help keep diseases and infections at bay. Here are some tips on how to clean toilets.

The best areas to start cleaning your toilet are the handle and tank. Use multi-surface cleaner on these surfaces and use a quarterly folded cloth to wipe clean. A quarterly folded cloth allows you to use different sides to clean and dry the wet surfaces. To avoid spreading germs to the handle and tank, avoid cleaning the seat or lid first as they are dirtier.

Once the tank and handle is cleaned, spray the multi-surface cleaner on the lid and seat and use a fresh side of the folded cloth to clean. The seat is usually dirtier and will require more of the cleaner to properly clean.

Once you are done with the seat, it is now time to clean the toilet bowl. Sprinkle the cleaner generously around the bowl, making sure you cover each spot. Now take a brush and use the water in the bowl to wet it and then use a circular motion to clean the sides of the toilet bowl. When done, shake the brush to get rid of excessive water and then flush the toilet.

To clean the outside of the bowl, apply some cleaner on the surface and use the same method used for cleaning the handle and tank. Finally, use a dry cloth to wipe any cleaner left on the surface. This should leave your toilet sparkling clean.

With proper tools in place, cleaning your toilet shouldn’t take more than three minutes to finish. If there are tough stains on the surface of the toilet that have proven difficult to clean with regular multi-surface cleaner, go to your local store and get a commercial acid-based cleaner which should get rid of the problem a lot quicker. If you are trying to avoid such chemicals when cleaning your toilet, a pumice stone meant for toilet bowls will do just fine.

Tips For Cleaning Stove Burner Pans

ThinkstockPhotos-139878564

Stove tops can get extremely dirty after a while. The daily abuse of high heat and burned food can turn their once pristine surfaces into a hopeless mess of gunk. Homeowners should clean stove burner pans every so often so that the problem doesn’t get too bad. The big problem is when you are moving to a different apartment and the previous tenants weren’t paying attention to kitchen cleanliness. You will inherit the fruits of their negligence.

Soak and Scrub

Most people want to start on a clean slate. They want their homes to be as perfect as they can be. The pans will have to undergo a makeover so as to shine again. Mix in a few drops of dishwashing soap to a bowl of hot water. The bowl should be big enough to accommodate the pans. Soak them in the solution overnight so allow the soap to penetrate the dried dirt. Then use a scrub to polish every inch of the surface. Repeat multiple times until the pieces are completely clean.

If the scrub isn’t enough, use a kitchen scraper for better cleaning action. This plastic tool is specifically designed to remove leftover food. Do everything you can to accomplish the task using only light chemicals like dishwashing liquid and good old fashioned manual labor. Only if you don’t seem to be making progress should you think about calling in the heavy hitters such as highly toxic chemicals.

The Heavy Hitters

Ammonia can help get rid of stubborn burn food on the pans but it is a toxic substance that can harm the environment so please limit its use. Over cleaners can also be used but it has its own issues like its corrosive effect on metals. For your safety, always put on durable gloves when handling these substances. Getting them on your skin could cause irritation. They should also be used separately. Never mix these two together as their chemical reaction is not favorable inside a home.

The Many Types Of Laundry Boosters

200370213-001

What are Laundry Boosters?

Laundry boosters are fabulous at keeping your laundry looking clean and bright. To get out tough stains such as coffee, wine, and grass stains, you’ll need a good laundry booster. A laundry booster is added to the wash cycle to increase the effectiveness of the detergent. The laundry booster can be purchased, or some prefer to make the own laundry booster. The outcome is always the same: to increase the effectiveness of the laundry detergent.

The laundry boosters can be made from organic oils and cleaning elements. Some may decide to purchase the laundry booster at a local store. The typical laundry booster is available as a powder, liquid, or foam. Unscented laundry boosters are available for individuals with sensitive skin.  The products can be used on many different types of fabrics such as wool, cotton and polyester.

How Does the Laundry Booster Work

Often plain laundry detergent is just not sufficient to get your laundry clean. A good laundry booster will remove stains, grease, and grime for the cleanest laundry. Adding the booster to your laundry will also keep colors looking brilliant and will keep your whites looking sparkling. The laundry booster also removes odors from the fabric, leaving it smelling clean and fresh.

A laundry booster that has baking soda in it is alkaline. The alkaline nature gives the booster a high pH value and, in turn, makes the water soft. This increases the effectiveness of the laundry detergent.

Oxygen bleach is used in some laundry boosters, but this product should be used only on whites. The oxygen bleach removes stains and also brightens the laundry. Some laundry boosters use enzymes to remove dirt and stains from both white and colored fabrics.

There are many different types of laundry boosters available to keep your laundry sparkling clean. Removing dirt and grease from your clothing will protect the fabric. Don’t spend another day with dull and dingy clothes. To look your best add a laundry booster to each wash cycle. Effectively Cleaning Sweat Stains From Shirts

459953829

Yellow stains on garments are caused by the reaction between the salts in your sweat and anti-perspirant ingredients with aluminum compounds. You can prevent the stains by wearing an undergarment to protect the outer garment or switching to an anti-perspirant with a low amount of aluminum compounds.

Yellow stains should be removed as soon as possible. Leaving the stains on the garments can make them set in and become harder to remove. If your white shirts are showing yellow underarm stains, there are a number of ways you can remove the coloration. Here are two stain removal methods you can use:

i) The 1:1:1 method
Mix one part of water, hydrogen peroxide and baking powder into a solution and use it to treat the stain. Ideally, the ingredients should be about ¼ cup. Use a thick white towel to protect the counter top from getting stained by the solution. Rub the solution on the shirt and allow it to work for at least 30 minutes. Finally, use an old toothbrush to loosen any residue on the garment and then wash normally with warm water.

ii) The 1:1 method
Mix one part of household ammonia and an oxygen-based bleach to treat the stains. Mix about 2 tablespoons of each solution and rub it on the stain for at least 30 seconds and allow it to work for about 10 minutes. When working, wear rubber gloves and protect your countertop with a thick white towel. Also, make sure you work in a well-ventilated room.

How to Clean Sweat Stains for Dark Shirts
Yellow sweat stains may not be obvious on dark colored shirts but can result into some odor, residue or stiffness under the arms. You can remove the buildup and freshen the garment by using distilled white vinegar. Fill a bucket with cold water with a cup of distilled white vinegar and leave the shirt to soak for about 30 minutes. After this, use an old toothbrush to scrub off the residue and wash the shirt normally.

Secrets To Cleaning Your Floors

179213355

There are many kinds of disinfecting and floor cleaning products available at all supermarkets and hardware stores. They range in effectiveness, price, and level of toxicity. However, what many chemical manufacturing companies do not tell consumers is that some of the most effective products available for cleaning floors are simple everyday items available in most homes.

Clean Water

There are many situations where clean water is the best solution for cleaning floors. This may seem like an oversimplification; however, pure, clean water is perfect for cleaning hard tile, ceramic, and many natural stone floors. Some cleaning products available on the market can leave streaks on the surface of tile floors, while others can cause chemical damage to some natural stone floors, causing them to permanently stain.

In most cases, it would be better to clean hard surface floors with hot to lukewarm water, and mop the surface regularly. Since moisture does not pose a problem to a properly installed hard surface floor, they can then be left to dry naturally. However, it is important to understand that certain types of floors can be damaged by standing water. This includes hardwoods, cork, carpet, laminates, and some linoleum installations.

Vinegar

Vinegar is an excellent flooring disinfectant, which can be used to clean a variety of flooring surfaces including laminates, stone, brick, tiles, and resilient flooring. Since the smell of vinegar can be quite strong, it should be diluted in a mixture of about a gallon of water to one cup of vinegar. However, a more concentrated mixture can be used to tackle more stubborn stains, including carpet stains.

Rubbing Alcohol

Mixed with water, rubbing alcohol can be a good cleaning agent for resilient flooring and hard tile. In a pinch, it can be used as a spot stain remover. However, rubbing alcohol has a distinct scent, which can be offensive to certain people.

Translucent Dishwashing Detergent

The very same soapy suds people use to clean their plates can also be used to clean floors. A tiny amount of this detergent mixed in a cup of water creates a very effective floor cleaning solution. However, it is important to use translucent soap as the dyes in colored dishwashing detergents can stain certain types of surfaces.

Olive Oil For Hardwood Floors

Olive oil can be applied to hardwood flooring to enhance its shimmering sheen. One should mix a half a cup of this slick, silky substance into a gallon of warm water and apply it to the flooring with smooth, even strokes of the mop.

How You Can Make Money From Your Spring Cleaning

83590593

Homeowners who think spring cleaning is just about elbow grease and getting rid of junk might be sending money to the landfill. With some planning and a bit of legwork, some of the common items people throw away while spring cleaning can add extra cash to their wallets and strengthen their bottom line. Cleaning the house is not the most enjoyable task; however, before banishing those old toys, books, or clothes to the local landfill, one should consider one thing: the more one cleans, the more one is likely to find ways of earning money from the items taking up space in one’s drawers or closet.

Some of the best ways to make money from spring cleaning include:

Selling Stuff Through Facebook Garage Sale Groups

Garage sales are a time–tested and popular way of earning extra cash from old stuff. However, having a garage sale means giving up an entire weekend to sit and wait for people to stop and buy items. This is why many people are turning to Facebook garage sale groups to buy and sell items such as books, clothes, baby gear, and much more.

Setting–up a Table at the Local Flea Market

Many homeowners prefer to sell their belongings face–to–face. Such people should, therefore, set up a table at their local flea market. They may have to get a license and probably pay a small table fee. However, they also get to display their wares directly in the path of interested buyers without having to put up signs, advertise, or hope that customers turn down their street.

Selling Clothes Through Online Consignment Stores

People who own high–quality clothes that they want to exchange for cold, hard cash should consider selling through consignment stores. Often, such stores provide free shipping kits to make it as easy and convenient as possible to send in one’s gently used clothes. Some of them pay in cash, while others pay in store credit. Either way, one gets something new for old clothes.

Other ways of earning money through spring cleaning include: using book reseller sites to sell used books, making money off old newspapers, cutting out and selling magazine ads, and raiding the recycling bin for items to recycle into money. 187845213

Using chlorine bleach to clean your clothing or towels requires some basic knowledge to get the best results. Follow these simple steps and you will preserve the fibers in your clothing as well as clean your clothing better. The first step is to allow the detergents you are using to remove loosen the dirt in the laundry before applying the bleach.

bleachNever apply full-strength bleach to a load of clothing. Always mix bleach with water before adding it to your laundry. Pour one cup of bleach for every quart of water used. Never mix two or more types of bleach or mix other chemicals with bleach.  You could create a caustic mixture that can harm your clothing and your lungs.

When bleaching towels or preparing to use bleach on a piece of clothing first test the bleach on an area not readily visible to the naked eye such as a pocket lining, hem or facing. Mix one part bleach with two parts warm water, the take a cotton swab and dip it in the solution. Dab the solution on the garments lining or facing and allow it to dry. If the garment loses color in the area or color leaches through to the other side, do not use the bleach to launder this piece of clothing.

Bleach works in all temperatures of water, but it works best in very hot water. Wait at least five minutes after the wash begins to allow the detergent to release its enzymes and begin cleaning the clothing. Next add the diluted bleach.

Be sure you use the bleach within six months of purchasing it. Bleach loses its potency after being opened.  After six months dispose of any opened bottles of bleach.
